Chocolate manufacturer, Nestlé UK Ltd. have installed six Grahams labelling machines to apply product information labels to the underside of their Quality Street product, ‘The Big Purple One’.
Working together with Packaging Overhaul Ltd., the Grahams technical team had a few problems to overcome; not least of which was the tricky one of how to hold the product without squeezing the delicate chocolate as accuracy of label placement was vital.
The hazelnut in caramel chocolate is covered by an attractive cellophane twist wrap and, via a clever system of conveyors and side drive belts, the Graham Commander 128-25’s apply the 30mm dia label to the flat underside. Finally, the chocolate is positioned onto an inclined outfeed and is taken to operator height before being gently dropped onto the packaging tray.
The production lines were conceived, manufactured and installed in just 8 weeks. A tremendous feat of engineering ability by Grahams to ensure plenty of ‘The Big Purple Ones’ are readily available.
The Graham Commander 128-25 is an ideal machine for this application. Being very versatile, it is widely used in food industries such as bakeries and by meat, poultry, vegetable and cheese producers. The Commander compact labelling system is available as a single or multi-head machine and can be fitted with an optional thermal overprinter or hot foil coder. Available in three label widths and two web speeds, the Commander is suitable for labelling onto flat surfaces of packs up to 200mm in height.
