Seven Seas, the health supplement manufacturer, is producing taste-free cod liver oil capsules - Neutrataste. They have designed an exciting new container utilising a conical shape requiring the technology available through heat shrink sleeving for decoration. To ensure a smooth launch, the eye catching, colourfully branded full body sleeve is applied to the new container shape by a Graham RF200 sleeving and banding machine.

Alun Jones, Seven Seas Production Manager, says that they were impressed with the high quality of build and performance of the RF200. Such quality, together with the helpfulness of Graham’s staff, convinced Seven Seas to install a Graham applicator system.

The bespoke design of this particular machine is demonstrated by highly automated features. The features include a scroll which spaces the containers correctly, the pre-heating of containers by a twin leister hot air tunnel and the collapsing of the sleeve as it passes through a further twin leister hot air tunnel. There is a final shrink in a spin tunnel, which has six high power heat guns set at different heights, giving even shrink with no distortion of graphics.

Additional features include a detect/eject system to check that the containers are sleeved prior to their reaching the outfeed heat tunnels. There is also an emergency stop procedure which raises the heat tunnel manifolds above the container height (preventing melting of any product still in the tunnel) and locks the guards until the tunnels have cooled down. The Graham RF200 sleeves several sizes of the new Seven Seas container (30 and 60 x 1000mg capsules also 30 and 60 x 500mg capsules). Changeover is achieved by a simple operation.
