Dairy Farmers of Britain has recently launched a range of flavoured milk drinks under the brand name Wonder Cow. The drinks are made with natural ingredients, have less than 5% added sugar and are low in fat. The square 250ml HDPE bottles are filled, shrink sleeved and packed by Nene Valley Foods at their Peterborough site.
Graham Engineering was approached because it has the technology to form a sleeve into a square or rectangle as it passes through the sleeving applicator. This ensures accurate sleeve placement for both the panel artwork and bar code. Grahams designed and manufactured a complete sleeving line comprising of a pre-drying tunnel to remove moisture after filling and prior to sleeving by a Graham RF150 square bottle sleeve applicator at 120 per minute. The sleeve is then shrunk into position by a Graham steam tunnel and a post drying tunnel all conveyed on a purpose built conveyor system. Grahams main challenge was to assist in the design of the bottle, particularly the neck area, in order to obtain a repeatable and accurate shrink.
Kate-Anne Kelly of Dairy Farmers of Britain said, '"We chose to work with Graham Engineering because we were impressed with the company's technical expertise as well as its ability to offer the application machine we required. We are delighted with the machine which makes an important contribution to the brand launch"
